15 minute spy adventure show
Where was Secret Agent K-7? Well, he was on the radio very early on, in 1932. Unfortunately those episodes are lost. But our intrepid agent did find his way into the movies, with the filmm "Special Agent K-7" in 1937 and he appeared as a comic book character. Agent K-7 then returned to radio in 1939. The format of this show is that Secret Agent K-7 acts as the host and introduces a short (15 minute) spy adventure. In later episodes he would take part in the action himself. The secret agents who did the actual work were B-9, Z, and M. The agents have the assistance of a female partner: Rita Drake, Yvonne Durrell, or Patricia Norwood. Generally the women are there to provide exposition for the listener, but they do get involved in a shoot-out or go under-cover;they are as plucky as they are beautiful. For fifteen minute stories these are pretty good, just boiling the adventure right down to the fast-paced action. Episodes revolve around plans to undermine world peace, sabotage, blackmail, and, of course, assassinations.
It is interesting to note that the character returned to the air in 1939 and was pretty much warning the U.S. about the rise of Hitler. While the enemy country is not named, the villain speaks in a German accent, and one episode deals with a country that lost the last war and is itching to try again.
