Broadway is My Beat Old Time Radio Program
½ hour mystery detective show
From Times Square to Columbus Circle the grandest,
the most violent, the lonesomest mile in the world.
Broadway is My Beat ran from 1949 to 1954 on CBS. It
was first produced in New York, but after just three
months the production moved to Los Angeles, with a new
cast and producer. Larry Thor took over the lead role
of Detective Danny Clover. Clover would narrate these
hardboiled detective stories, in the mold of Dragnet.
The show is noteworthy for well written stories, by
Morton Fine and David Friedkin, as well as an
excellent sound crew that recreated the atmosphere of
New York. The supporting cast included regulars
Charles Calvert (as Sgt. Gino Tartaglia) and Jack
Kruschen (as Sgt. Muggavan), with episodic roles
filled by various radio professionals.
Though it had a good run of five years, the show was
bounced around a few times with different air times
and as a summer replacement show.
Broadway is sleeping now... the furious avenues of the
night are still... only the sleepwalkers are there...
the seekers, the sodden...
