Family Theater Old Time Radio Program CD1
½ hour drama/religious program
Family Theater was an old-time radio show which aired on the Mutual
Broadcasting System in the United States from February 13, 1947 to September
11, 1957.
The show was produced by Family Theater Productions, a film and radio studio
extension of the Family Rosary Crusade founded by the Holy Cross Priest, Father
Patrick Peyton, CSC, as a way to promote family prayer. The motto of the these
Holy Cross Family Ministries is, "The family that prays together, stays
together."
The program had no commercial sponsor, yet Father Peyton, CSC arranged for many
of Hollywood's stars in film and radio at the time to appear. In its ten-year
run, famous actors and actresses such as James Stewart, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball,
Raymond Burr, Jane Wyatt, Charlton Heston, Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, Gene Kelly
and Chuck Connors all appeared as announcers, narrators or stars.
In total, 540 episodes were produced. The program featured not only religious
stories, but half-hour adaptations of literary works such as A Tale of Two Cities,
Moby-Dick and Don Quixote.

on your computer, you can transfer them to MP3 players (like the IPod), but,
by and large, you cannot play them on stereos, walkmen, or car radios.
The sound quality of Old Time Radio Programs can vary greatly. Some episodes
are excellent, others you have to turn up the volume a little and ignore the static.
All of the episodes can be listened to and enjoyed. You can listen to our free
samples to get a feel for how the programs sound.

These episodes are downloadable in large zip files. To open a zip file you need software to "unzip" it. Your computer may already have unzip software, if this is the case, just click on the file and your software will automatically open up and you can unzip the files. If your computer doesn't have an unzip program, you can get one from the internet. The files are large - it will take you a few minutes to download each file. A full CD worth of episodes takes about 14 large files. if you are on dial-up, we highly recommend you buy a CD.
We recommend that you set up an account on checkout. If you are disrupted while downloading, you can simply log back into your account, but if you don't set up an account, you will have to e-mail us to make sure that you get your episodes.
