Gunsmoke: The Piano
Gunsmoke: Doc's Reward
The series Gunsmoke has been considered by many people to be the very best radio program of all time, not just a great western. It ran from 1952 to 1961 on the CBS network, and spawned a television program that ran from 1955 to 1975.

The series starred William Conrad as U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon,"the first man they look for, and the last they want to meet." The rest of the cast consisted of Howard McNear as Doc Charles Adams, Georgia Ellis as Kitty Russell, and Parley Baer as Deputy Chester Proudfoot. Doc's first name and Chester's last name were changed when the series moved to television. The show takes place in Dodge City in the mid 1880s.

The producer/director Norm Macdonnell coming from the terrific radio program Escape, continued the practices he learned there. Excellent stories, a realistic feel, and meticulous attention to the surrounding atmosphere through sound effects and music. This western is geared to an adult audience, as opposed to shows like the Lone Ranger. Gunsmoke did not shy away from explicit content, violent crimes, opium, and morally conflicting characters and storylines.

Anne Sirius - 01/17/2007  4 of 5 Stars!
I love Gunsmoke, it was defintely one of the better produced shows, great sound effects, good writing. The episode "Kitty" was particularly good, the ladies of the town snub Kitty when Marshall Dillon takes her to a ball. The sound quality on a couple of the episodes was poor, but overall, it's great deal. 94 episodes for only $4.50!
