Tales of the Texas Rangers
½ hour western episodes
"Texas … more than 260,000 square miles! And the 50 men who make up the most famous and oldest law enforcement body in North America!"

Joel McCrea, a famous western movie star, played the role of Ranger Jayce Pearson in ‘authentic re-enactments’ of real Ranger cases. The Tales of the Texas Rangers aired from 1950 to 1952. It was a bit different than most radio westerns in that it focused on a more modern West, with the stories taking place between 1928-1948. Another difference from a typical western is that Tales of the Texas Rangers focused on the investigative aspects of the Ranger force, rather than the just the action. The show was later translated into a television program that was geared to a more juvenile audience with an emphasis on chase scenes and fistfights.

In the radio program, Ranger Jayce Pearson would use modern technology to investigate and capture the bad guys. The show has been compared to other procedural detective shows, like Dragnet. But in keeping with the western genre, he always relied on his trusty horse, Charcoal, to seal the fate of evil doers.

Stacy Keach, Sr. produced and directed the series, written by Joel Murcott, and Hal Bigney was the announcer. The series had a stable of radio professionals with Tony Barrett, Peggy Webber, Ed Begley and others who had been in the business for quite a while. Captain Manuel "Lone Wolf" Gonzaullas, an actual Texas Ranger, served as an advisor for the show.

All of our Old Time Radio Programs are in MP3 format. You can play them on your computer, you can transfer them to MP3 players (like the IPod), but, by and large, you cannot play them on stereos, walkmen, or car radios.

The sound quality of Old Time Radio Programs can vary greatly. Some episodes are excellent, others you have to turn up the volume a little and ignore the static. All of the episodes can be listened to and enjoyed. You can listen to our free samples to get a feel for how the programs sound.
