1 hour drama/adaptations show
Studio One is a long-running American radio–television anthology series, created in 1947 by the 26-year-old Canadian director Fletcher Markle, who came to CBS from the CBC. The show presented 60 minute novel and play adaptations.
Unlike Lux Radio Theater, Studio One relied heavily on radio professionals rather than Hollywood movie stars, and did adaptations of classic literature rather than the latest blockbuster.
On April 29, 1947, Studio One was launched with the 60-minute adaptation of Malcolm Lowry's Under the Volcano. The series only lasted about a year, until July 27, 1948. During its run it showcased such adaptations as Dodsworth, Pride and Prejudice, The Red Badge of Courage and Ah, Wilderness. Top performers were heard on this series, including John Garfield, Walter Huston, Mercedes McCambridge, Burgess Meredith and Robert Mitchum.
