30 minute detective/adventure show

The program "Words at War" lasted from 1943 and 1945. As you may imagine, stories from World War II figure pretty prominently in these shows, but the show does include a few stories from other times. The program was produced in cooperation with the Council on Books in Wartime, and aired by NBC, promising "stories of the battlefronts, of behind-the-scenes diplomacy, of underground warfare, of the home front, of action on the seas." Each show was to be "a living record of this war and things for which we fought."
This program is a small part of the Homefront during World War II. The show was meant to prop up American morale, to let people know that we are fighting for truth, justice, and liberty. And to let them know that by working long hours, living in crowded conditions, donating to scrap drives, and putting up with ration books, that we were all helping in a greater cause.
